After many weeks, the Illyrian Horde finally reaches the Macedonian border. Upon crossing, anyone was fair game. The civilized women were raped and taken, men slain, crops taken and fields burned. But, as Bardylis has said during one night "I piss on the Macedonians and their Gods." He (While drunk) approached a grand temple of Thaulos, the Macedonian equivalent of Ares and pissed on it. As Perdicaas heard of this insult, he assembled his forced and marched to meet them on a wide open plain with a large hill near Pella. When Bardylis heard the Macedonians were mobilizing, he immediately pursued.

Bardylis sends his lightest horsemen to scout out where the Macedonians lie in the fields of hills. As they approached however, they were overtaken completely by Macedon's own cavalry, who were equipped for battle not scouting. Ilyria's scouts were annhilated while Macedon's spotted Bardylis' army.

Bardylis began his march towards Pella, which could be seen in the west, behind a hill (It is still miles away however.). Across a flat plain near the hill rested the Macedonian army, in full view, mobilized and ready to fight. As Bardylis' army approached, he saw queer looking objects being spotted moving a top the hill from behind it. Each was supported by a squad of Macedonians and were small wooden constructs. As the Illyrians marched, more appeared, until there were a few dozen of them. Suddenly, as a flag rose from the Macedonian army, they launched large bolts into the Illyrian horde. Completely unexpecting, many Illyrians were killed by the new weapon; The Ballistae. Unable to retaliate in force against the Ballistae, Bardylis had to force march through the artillery fire, as if he did otherwise the Macedonians would flank them.

Bardylis ordered a charge, wisely allowing his armoured Hoplites to be in front, as to avoid his lighter troops being skewered by pikes. As the horde approached however, Bardylis noticed that a major part of Macedon's front line were all levies, the professionals being more reserves. Taking a risk, Bardylis ordered his most ferocious men to charge that point in the line. As they charged, the phalanx visibly wavered, many were unable to keep formation, ruining the defensive properties of it. The Illyrians slammed into the armourless levies, killing many. Around the flanks the Illyrian cavalry, out numbering the Macedonian Lancers who were on flank, slammed into one another as they both charged.

With the frontline formation ruined, the Dardanians were able to fly through the Macedonians. As the professional Phalangites prepared to form a Phalanx, the reserved Hoplites smashed into them, forcing them into a tight melee without their pikes. The sheer numbers of Illyrians prevented the Macedonians from performing a heroic victory; Hypastpists were cut down and the mighty Companions were surrounded and slaughtered. King Perdicaas called for a retreat early however, allowing him to make of with as much men as possible. The day remained a crushing victory for Dardania, who as well as winning the battle, killed the Enchelei Chief and ended their vassalship.

He sent a diplomat to demand that they give up their northern land and accept vassalation with yearly tribute of 25% income (though the Illyrians will be angry, they wanted the Macedonians to be destroyed), or watch their people be put through Illyrian punishment. (If this is not accepted siege will take place)

Not Pella, but everything north of Pella and Epirus. and you are correct about everything else.

Essentially, the Macedonians decline. The King, Perdicaas is recruiting more men from his allies and regions to reform his army. "Macedon shall never bow to these savages."

I presume Pella has only levies so there is not much defense. Scouts are put about, in the event of another battle no Macedonians will be allowed to flee.

The city of Pella is well-supplied enough to maintain a long siege. The Illyrian forces will be held up for quite a while unless they assault. Perdicaas knows this and is already rebuilding his army. He sends diplomats to all his neighbours and all Greek civilizations to ask for help against the Illyrians.
