Well, we may as well get started. I've got all your emails (trololo), so I'll email cooki a notice of starting. BTW, Sid, your forum hath arrived.

Let's put the start date on Saturday, to give ample time for faction building, eh?

Oh, and we forgot about populations. Just find a historical source for it.

The best I can seem to find puts Greece at 8 mil, Egypt at 7 mil, and all of Achaemenid Persia at 30 mil. Most likely I could cut another 8 mil off that since Anatolia was more or less the same as Greece throughout history, and given the prosperity of the Mesopotamian regions I'd expect about 10 mil between there and Caucasus+modern Persia. That means that 12 mil are left over, which can be distributed reasonably with 6 mil in fertile Israel (which would corroborate with Biblical statistics as well) and 5 mil in Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, etc. Arabia most likely would have had <500,000, so we can give it 300,000 or so of the remains, mostly in Saba and the northern bit next to the Sinai peninsula. The other 700,000 I suppose could be put in the far fringe areas like Bactria. India always has a ridiculous population and Alexander couldn't beat them with his Persian army, so I'd expect another 10-15 mil there too.

That's my best estimate, and based on it I'm giving myself 2 mil (I own the southern half of Israel)

This game has a perfect start date for my nation. As for population I am unsure, it's hard to trust any source on populations of Balkan region at this period in time. What do you think? Also region wise how does the map look at the present? All my stuff will be sorted by Saturday, hopefully a good game folks

I really don't know. At the time it was considered part of Greece, and it's a low-population area in comparison to say Attica, so I'd guess around 1 mil, 2 mil at the highest estimate.

How does 2-3Mil sound for Sicily?

I can't really do anything on guestamations, I believe it would not be huge as the region was not very populated, although I would prefer not to be powerless in comparison to you others. A fixed population please?

Mik i used your things as a template, hope you dont mind . 2 nations will cause difficulty, bottom line you wont declare war on yourself so how is that fair?

Well the way I thought of it was that your second nation must be minor at best and to some extent far from your primary nation so you can't ally your two together and dominate an area (Eg, Im Sicily and I take Carthage, the Med is basically mine.) So to keep it fair, choose a small nation that is far from your original (Eg Im Sicily with *Insert insignificant Barbarian Tribe/City State.)

And I had assumed that that was obvious. I would make a Germanic nation, for example (oh the irony).
